CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Back-to-school shopping is in full swing as we're now less than two weeks from the first day of class for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.
A new survey from Deloitte found that the average Charlotte family will spend more than $750 this year, nearly 30% higher than the national average.
Families are expected to spend around $300 on new clothes and another $200 on school supplies. However, none of those figures account for one of the biggest expenses: extracurricular activities, which cost an additional $700 on average.
And not all of that back-to-school shopping is for the kids. According to the survey, over 60% of parents plan to treat themselves while shopping. Many parents consider it a reward for getting kids set for another school year.
