CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The most wonderful time of the year also tends to be the most hectic at the airport, with large crowds packing concourses across the country.
All those people mean more suitcases will be making their way through security and baggage claim. Nothing can kill your Christmas cheer quite like the airline losing your luggage, but being prepared for that kind of disaster can help ease any anxiety should it happen.
What's your best defense?
Travel experts say your camera. Take a photo of your luggage and anything valuable you happen to be packing. That way, if your suitcase does get lost, you've got a visual of the bag to show the airline, as well as photographic evidence of the items (and dollar amount) packed inside.
WCNC Charlotte is always asking "where's the money?" If you need help, reach out to WCNC Charlotte by emailing money@wcnc.com.
That's important because although the maximum liability amount for lost luggage on a domestic flight is $3,800, an airline can decide to pay you more, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation.
Having photographic proof of what you packed may not get your exact item back, but it could help convince the airline to pay you what it's really worth.
