CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Gas prices are starting to decrease from record highs but they're still nowhere near the prices we saw last year.
It's not just fuel that's more expensive in 2022. Just about everything is costing more.
Here are 3 things we're paying more for in 2022:
1. Used cars
Buying a used car isn't as easy or cost effective this year. The shortage of new cars available caused by manufacturing issues, among other things, has directly impacted the used car market. Demand for used cars has increased and sticker prices have too. How much? According to data from automotive research and shopping website, CarGurus.com, the price of a used car has increased 35% since March 2021.
2. Food
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics charts prices being charged across the country and the numbers show that just about everything costs more. The average price of bacon has gone up $1.24, ground beef prices have increased 82 cents on average, and egg prices are averaging 39 cents higher this year from last.
3. Rent
Getting a roof over your head is costing more this year, too. Online real estate marketplace, Zillow tracks rent prices and the data isn't encouraging. If you're currently looking for a new place to lease, expect to pay 15.9% more. That's how much rent has increased in just one year.
