CHARLOTTE, N.C. — We've all seen prices for everyday items increase over the last few years. Many times we're told the price hike is in response to circumstances outside of the business's control like supply chain issues.
But do those same businesses ever lower their prices once the external circumstances that caused them to raise prices no longer exist?
It’s something to ponder for sure.
Take Starbucks for example. This past quarter, Starbucks saw sales gains helped by higher prices and what it calls more efficient operations. Starbucks has said customers aren't cutting back on buying drinks despite higher prices, and they continue to spend extra on syrups, foams and other add-ons.
Just this week, Starbucks started charging an extra dollar to customers who request no water be added to a Refresher drink, according to Insider. Right now, that drink without the special "no water" request costs anywhere from around $4 to $5.
It's not just Starbucks either, both McDonald's and PepsiCo have told investors in recent weeks shoppers continue to pay more for burgers, soda and other items.
