New app creates foundation for financial literacy in kids

During the pandemic, a new way of teaching kids about financial competence took hold and BusyKid has now developed an app to help kids learn.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — In some schools, gone are the days of Junior Achievement or learning how much money matters and how to manage it.

During the pandemic, a new way of teaching kids about financial literacy gained traction and it can be installed on any handheld device.

BusyKid, at its core, is all about showing kids how to manage money, whether they earn that from doing chores or getting a part-time job.

CEO Greg Murset told WCNC Charlotte that BusyKid goes beyond just financial responsibility. It creates an early foundational perspective for a child to learn how to save, invest, and even give.

"It's a little ecosystem before you hit reality that really models reality," Murset said. "You can save and invest in certain areas of the app and that's exactly what they can do. It allows you to make sure they pick something they can learn from that they think is cool."
