Forbes has released a list ranking the most wealthy individual in each state of the U.S.
James Goodnight, 74, the CEO of SAS Institute came out as North Carolina's wealthiest person.
According to Forbes, Goodnight founded the business analytics software firm SAS in 1976 with fellow billionaire, John Sall, whom he met at North Carolina State University.
As of February 2, 2017, Forbes estimates Goodnight's net worth is $9.5 billion. He resides in Cary, North Carolina is married and has three children.
Sall and Goodnight have made education the sole focus of SAS's philanthropy, Forbes says. The two partners founded a private school as well as own a country club and hotel.
"With its analytics software in use in over 75,000 companies around the world, SAS revenues hit $3.16 billion in 2015," Forbes says. "Goodnight owns two-thirds of the company."
