CHARLOTTE, N.C. — People cranking up the thermostat -- on top of seeing energy hikes from providers -- may be looking at making some pricey payments just to stay warm.
The Low Income Energy Assistance Program might be able to help.
Payments within the program can come in the amount of $300, $400 or $500 based on how you heat your home.
WCNC Charlotte is always asking "where's the money?" If you need help, reach out to WCNC Charlotte by emailing money@wcnc.com.
You don't have to be behind on your bills to get the one-time payment.
So here are the requirements:
- Each qualifying household has to include at least one eligible U.S. citizen or legal resident.
- You have to be the one responsible for the heating cost.
- Your income has to be between 130-150% below federal poverty lines.
Anyone with questions is asked to call 704-336-3000.
Those who qualify should know an interview is required, and individuals will need to have their ID and social security number, a past utility bill, and proof of income.
