The Charlotte-Concord-Gastonia region ranked eighth for hottest markets overall. Cities were ranked based on housing supply versus demand, as well as overall financial health.

It's not the only region in the Carolinas to make the list -- Charleston-North Charleston, South Carolina, ranked 17th in the list.

Durham-Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and Charleston-North Charleston, South Carolina both made the "Markets to Watch" list based on housing market index growth.

As for which metro took number one, it was actually a tie: Austin-Round Rock, Texas, and Kansas City, Missouri, share the title.
