CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The city of Charlotte celebrated a major step forward Wednesday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Evoke Living, the first completed phase of the Eastland Yards redevelopment project.
Located in the Albemarle Road Corridor of Opportunity, the new community features 72 units designed to provide housing for families and individuals across various income levels. Of the 72 homes at Evoke Living, 20% are reserved for households earning 60% or less of the Area Medium Income (AMI).
City leaders emphasized how this project was about more than just affordable housing. It's about revitalizing east Charlotte after years of broken promises.
"Evoke Living at Eastland Yards is more than just a housing development; it's a symbol of Eastland's bright future and our efforts to enhance east Charlotte," City Councilmember Marjorie Molina said.
The $97 million Eastland Yards project includes a mix of commercial and residential spaces that will transform the old Eastland Mall area into a vibrant neighborhood hub. The project is a collaboration between the city of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County.
The first residents will move in on Thursday, Nov. 21.
