LAKE NORMAN OF CATAWBA, N.C. — The most expensive property in the Charlotte area just hit the market at a whopping $22 million sale price, but the utter seclusion of the property may entice people who value their privacy.
The two-story, 11,505-square-foot property is called Merancas Island which is on Lake Norman in the western edge of Huntersville, just a few miles west of Interstate 77 at exit 25. It's around 20 miles north of Uptown Charlotte.
It's important to clarify that it's not technically an island because it's not surrounded completely by water. It's more of a peninsula. It's only accessible by boat or by entering the private, gated Island Drive.
The home, which is about 23 years old, is three bedrooms and five-and-a-half baths and sits on a 4.5-acre property. The house features a steam shower and sauna, a sunroom and a swimming pool. That property also has a two-story guest house, a tennis court, a gazebo and two docks.

"This private island compound epitomizes the serene allure of Lake Norman. A once-in-a-lifetime residential treasure, Merancas Island is exquisite and intimate while providing a premier setting for a truly extraordinary lifestyle," the exclusive marketers of the property Jessica Grier and Ben Bowen of Premier Sotheby’s International Realty said in a press release.
The current owners of the property are reportedly selling because they want to downsize.
The most expensive property in North Carolina is a Linville estate out in the Blue Ridge Mountains and is priced at $29.75 million.
