CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A new entertainment district is coming to Charlotte's bustling South End.
Between Remount Road and Dunavant Street on South Tryon Street, several buildings will transform into the Anthem District. The project is comprised of nine total existing buildings, many of which will be upgraded to fit their future tenants.
Lauren Faulkenberry, a retail broker for The Providence Group, said the vision for the Anthem District includes several restaurant, retail and entertainment businesses that have synergy and connection through outdoor spaces.
The project will solely be commercial spaces.
"Within a half-mile, there are 8,000 existing apartments with nearly 2,000 planned or under construction," Faulkenberry said, adding that South Tryon will continue to become more walkable, benefiting businesses.
As South End continues to grow into the South Tryon corridor, the Anthem District plans to preserve the history of the buildings it's overtaking.
Jonathan Bowman, who lives nearby, said he is excited about the growth and hopes the district creates unique experiences that South End doesn't already have.
"I love going out, I love going to drink and stuff like that, but sometimes you want something that’s a little bit different," Bowman said. "You don’t want to be doing the same thing every single weekend."
The Providence Group hopes to lease the buildings in the next year and have the Anthem District up and running in the next two years.
