New report shows North Carolina among top states people are looking to relocate to

The study was conducted by looking at search trends of those eyeing up a new home.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — WCNC Charlotte has covered several stories about the impact of people moving to the greater Charlotte area, but a recent report from storage.com is talking about the folks ready to leave.

The new data reveals which states have more people searching for a new home in 2024. North Carolina came in 10th on the list, meaning it's among the top states ranked that people are considering moving to, or moving within the state.

To come up with the numbers, storage.com conducted a study analyzing Google searches, including searches for certain property and rental sites.

This was in an effort to show which areas people were looking to learn about relocating to.

What's not clear is why certain locations fared better than others. The report couldn't nail down why people want to relocate, but offered that tenants may be packing up because they need cheaper housing. Another factor could be people wanting to move from renting to owning.
