Most North Carolinians said faced with the possibility of marriage, their partner having a certain amount of debt would stop them from walking down the aisle.
A new datingadvice.com study found most North Carolinians would not commit to a relationship if they found out their significant other has more than $50,000 in debt. A majority of people say lying about money is worse than lying about your age.
But should you disclose your financial situation on a first date? Survey shows… probably not:
- 7% of people surveyed say this topic is appropriate for a first date
- 67% say they should wait until the relationship is exclusive
- 18% say they should wait until engagement
- 8% of people agree this topic should only come up after you’re married
This might come as a shock to some of you, but more than half of the people surveyed believe couples should have separate bank accounts, even after marriage.
The main takeaway? Datingadvice.com said transparency about debt and spending habits is paramount in forming strong, lasting bonds.
