Why people are abandoning their online shopping carts

A new study shows tighter budgets are the driving factor in why many people are leaving their online shopping carts abandoned this holiday season.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — We all do it, we place items in an online shopping cart just to exit the page at the end, leaving our items behind.

But why do you do it? Is it because you run out of time? You actually don’t want the items? Or are you asking "Where’s the money?”

Here are the top reasons people are leaving their online shopping carts.

WCNC Charlotte is always asking "where's the money?" If you need help, reach out to WCNC Charlotte by emailing money@wcnc.com.

A study from commercetools shows tighter budgets are the driving factor in why many people are leaving online shopping carts abandoned this holiday season.

Experts also said online shoppers are not going through with their purchases because of the high shipping costs.

Another reason for leaving their online order? Experts said people are looking around to find a better deal elsewhere, and are waiting to see if the items in their cart will go on sale.

For those leaving items in an online shopping cart, whatever the reason, make sure to keep an eye out for emails with exclusive deals -- even after you’ve closed the browser. Stores will send these to you to make you come back and spend that money.

WCNC Charlotte's Where's The Money series is all about leveling the playing in the Carolinas by helping others and breaking down barriers.
