Goodwill is providing free tax assistance to qualified families and individuals through the VITA program.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Goodwill Industries of the South Piedmont is helping people get ahead and maximize their tax returns this tax season!

Individuals or families who have an annual income of $65,000 or less may qualify for free tax assistance under the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, a federal program that provides free tax assistance to those who qualify.

Starting on Saturday, Feb. 3, Goodwill will be offering this free tax service at its Wendover Road retail location. The service will be available at this location every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

This free service will run through April 15, 2024.

People are encouraged to make appointments, but walk-ins are welcome on Saturdays.

“The average tax return can cost a family or individual $200, this money can be used for other expenses such as childcare, food, transportation, or other needs,” Janice Gray, director of Client Experience & Family Service at Goodwill, said in a statement. “Our partnership with Community Link helps people in our community use their earnings for other things than taxes and saves them time.”
