The best way to curb a porch pirate is to cut off the porch altogether. For important packages consider having them sent to a local UPS or FedEx store or an Amazon locker
Amazon also offers key-in-garage delivery. With this option, the delivery driver can place your package inside a garage or other gated area for added security.
CNET says while home security cameras partially deter porch pirates, actual evidence that video doorbells reduce crime has been difficult to pinpoint.
What should you do if your package has been stolen?
Experts say to first contact the retailer about a replacement. If the retailer isn't budging, file an insurance claim with your homeowners insurance or renters insurance -- but know going that route comes with a deductible. Additionally, it's good to know, if you’re going to file a claim, you also need to file a police report.
