OCONEE COUNTY, S.C. — Those living in rural communities may see an improvement in electric service from a new $16.5 million investment, federal officials announced Tuesday.
The money will be used to connect 919 households and businesses in adjacent portions of North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia.
They money will be used to improve electric service in:
- In North Carolina: Buncombe, Haywood, Jackson, Macon, Madison, and Transylvania counties.
- In South Carolina the new line will benefit residents of Oconee County.
- In Georgia the new line will benefit residents of Raybun County.
In total, the project will construct 70 miles of new electric lines.
United States Department of Agriculture is investing $671 million to support projects in 23 states. The projects, which officials say should lower electric bills for rural families and businesses, were announced during an event at the White House on Tuesday.
