CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A large number of Duke Energy Progress customers may see a surprise on their upcoming energy bills as the utility works to correct billing errors.
News19 received multiple reports of customers who noticed large credits on their bills bringing some to question if it was a glitch. A spokesperson for the company confirmed on Sunday that these credits are real and will be applied to their energy bill.
The spokesperson said a large number of customers' bills were calculated incorrectly for one or more months.
"This is reflected as a credit and does not involve any addition to normal charges," Sunday's statement read. "As a result, some customers are receiving a corrected bill."
Duke Energy Progress is instructing customers to disregard the previous bill received for the same billing period.
"If customers have already submitted payment, it will be applied to their balance and adjusted next month," the announcement concluded. "Duke Energy apologizes for any inconvenience."
