NORTH CAROLINA, USA — Some North Carolinians are counting down the days to place online legal sports bets.
DraftKings is partnering with NASCAR and Fanduel is partnering with the Carolina Panthers.
WFMY News 2 spoke one-on-one with both sportsbooks as they prepare for their launch.
DraftKings President Matt Kalish said his organization has a growing relationship with NASCAR. He said technology is used to collect data.
"They put these chips in the car that track speed. We had an agreement to use that data to drive the fantasy game," he said.
Kalish said players can bet on nearly anything in their sportsbooks and safe game play is key.
"We are working on tools in house that are really meant to detect any kind of play that doesn't look 100% safe," he shared.
Competitor, FanDuel gives players monthly activity statements to keep a tab on money spent.
"We provide customers with a number of tools that they can use to manage their play. These are things like deposit limits and wage limits. We encourage everybody to think about how they can include responsible, gaming tools into their play," FanDuel Lindsay Vellines said.
She is FanDuel's Director of League and Team Marketing.
The Sportsbook has a multi-year partnership with the Carolina Panthers. Vellines said they are looking forward to the start of football season.
"Fans can expect digital signage and exclusive events at the stadium. We are excited to revisit this all in the fall once we get closer to football season," she shared.
Both platforms have early predictions for March Madness. Popular bets for men's basketball are Duke, U-Conn and Kentucky.
The two sportsbooks currently have promotions for gamers who sign up before the official launch date.
Online sports betting launches in North Carolina at noon Monday, March 11.
