AI tops concerns for workers, beating out inflation and economy

While most executives believe it's critical to incorporate AI into their businesses, the majority of workers are hesitant about the new technology.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A new report found nearly every American business executive is excited about artificial intelligence in the workplace, but many workers are concerned that AI could lead to security risks.

According to a report from cloud-based communication platform Slack, 96% of executives feel it's urgent to integrate AI across their businesses. And while incorporating AI into daily workflows is a top priority for those at the top of the corporate ladder, many people are worried about the ripple effect caused by the new technology.

Concerns over AI have even surpassed worries over inflation and the economy. There's a clear gap between skill and will, too. More than two-thirds of desk workers say they've never used AI in their jobs and many others aren't in a rush to figure it out.

A Yahoo! report outlined three main concerns from U.S. workers.

First is data security. Some staffers are worried about their clients' information being compromised. Others are worried about their privacy by being monitored during work hours.

The biggest issue is trust. Only 7% of desk workers believe the outputs from AI are trustworthy enough to assist them in work-related tasks, while 35% find the results only slightly reliable or not credible at all, according to the report.

Adding to the mistrust is the idea of replacement. Reports have yet to find unanimous consent as to just how many jobs AI could replace in the future.
