CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Valentine’s Day is just a couple of days away and a new survey found that more than half of Americans plan to buy a gift for that special something this year.
A RetailMeNot survey shows 62% of Americans plan to buy a gift for Valentine's Day in 2024. If you still need to grab a gift, WCNC Charlotte’s Jane Monreal has some shopping tips, so you’re not left asking, "where's the money?"
According to RetailMeNot, more than half of Americans will dish out an average of $165 on Valentine’s Day. When it comes to gifts, more than 66% of Americans say they prefer an experience, while 61% want gifts or products. There are also plenty of people splurging for a romantic meal with 32% of people opting for a Valentine's Day dinner.
Here are some tips for people looking to save some money this Valentine's Day
- Be sure to compare prices at different retailers. Some stores will likely have better deals than others. And don’t forget to factor in shipping and delivery. For example, when ordering flowers, the delivery cost can raise the advertised price significantly, so always look for promo codes.
- When it comes to flowers, if roses are too expensive, look for alternatives like succulents, houseplants, or even dried flowers! They’ll likely all last longer.
- Make sure you are familiar with the retailer's exchange and return policy just in case any items don’t work out
