One person was killed and several others injured in a two-vehicle crash Christmas afternoon in Lancaster County.

LANCASTER, S.C. -- One person is dead and multiple people are hurt after a bad accident in Lancaster.

Neighbors Tonka Barnes says, "There needs to be a traffic light here-- it isn't the first time. It's dangerous."

It was a mangled mess on Waxhaw Highway, near Ander Vincent Road this Christmas. The accident happened around 1 p.m.

"It's fatal. It's fatal," said passersby. And authorities later confirmed that to be true. Both cars totaled. One with it's entire front end crushed in. The other with it's entire side destroyed.

Neighbors say it isn't the first time they've seen something like this.

"A tractor trailer was coming and killed them both, years ago. That is dangerous out there," said one neighbor who didn't want to be named.

Most families in the neighborhood off the roads are home with their loved ones, praying for the victims.

"On Christmas day-- it's heart breaking. My heart goes out to them keep them in my prayers."

Authorities continue to piece this accident together, and we will, of course, update you as this story develops.

South Carolina Highway Patrol says 26-year-old Christopher Marquavis Coffey, of Waxhaw, and 66-year-old Janie Loue McMurray, of Monroe, both survived the crash. The name of the deceased has not yet been identified.
