The Smithsonian Channel is putting out a new documentary, Hunt for the Super Predator, about research done on great white sharks. To generate interest in the documentary and also to scare bloggers who don t happen to be very strong swimmers they gave the documentary a menacing hook: one of the sharks they were researching, a 3-meter-long great white shark, got eaten.
And they don t know exactly by what.
The scientists figured out something happened when their sensors detected one of the sharks diving to a huge depth. Not too strange, but as the shark appeared to dive, the temperature readings on their sensors got abnormally warm. Like, the exact temperature of the inside of something warm. Conclusion: The shark was eaten. EATEN.
After some research and science stuff, they were able to guess that the shark was eaten by an even bigger shark, perhaps over a territory dispute, but they don t really know. Basically, sharks are cannibals is something I learned today. Great. Awesome news.
My theory on what ate the shark? It was all laid out in a movie already.
