Alligator found in High Rock Lake

The discovery was made in Davidson County more than 100 miles northwest of where gators were expected to be found.

DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. — Wildlife officials are trying to figure out how an alligator ended up in High Rock Lake this week.

The discovery was made in Davidson County -- more than 100 miles northwest of where gators are expected to be found.

The animal is young and about 2.5 feet long, according to officials.

The gator had to be placed there by someone for unknown reasons, officials said, possibly as a pet that grew too large.
