CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte Checkers celebrated the first Calder Cup championship in team history Monday night.
Thousands of fans gathered at Bojangles Coliseum, as the team brought the Cup, posed for pictures and signed autographs.
Charlotte defeated the Chicago Wolves in five games to win the championship. During the playoff run, the Checkers set home attendance records and even had a collection of fans travel to Chicago for road games.
“It’s been awesome. The support that they’ve shown us the whole year has been incredible. It’s the loudest building in the AHL,” said captain Patrick Brown. “During the playoffs I was getting goosebumps when they were shouting.”
