CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- For eight bucks, you can ride for 24 hours. That's the idea behind Charlotte's B-Cycle bike sharing program, and soon, residents will be seeing a lot more stations.
B-Cycle announced that in 18 months the number of stations will roughly double in size. Included in the expansion are popular spots like NC Music Factory, Park Road Shopping Center and the Plaza Midwood neighborhood.
"I'm excited about all of them," said Dianna Ward, with Charlotte B-Cycle. "Every bike station we put on the map gives one more person the opportunity to integrate cycling into their routine."
The funding will come from Federal Government Transportation Funds for alternative transportation, and clean air funding B-Cycle says.
Last year nearly 60,000 trips were made, an increase over the year before. Each station is projected to cost about $40,000.
