CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Thousands wearing pink-colored gear flooded uptown Charlotte Saturday morning to kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Families across the Carolinas took to the streets for the annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Saturday's event raises money for those who are battling breast cancer.
Every 74 seconds, someone in the United States dies from a battle with breast cancer. A couple of moms who participated in Saturday's race said they urge other moms to take a mammogram in hopes of detecting the cancer as early as possible.
"Everyone is a little weary of going to the doctor, but if you just get past that part and go, early detection Is key," said one mother.
