LANCASTER COUNTY, S.C. – Lancaster County Sheriff’s Barry Faile has been named the 2018 South Carolina Sheriff of the Year.
Faile was nominated by Horry County Sheriff Phillip Thompson and Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster, a former Sheriff of the Year winner. The award is given by the South Carolina Sheriffs’ Association each July.
“Since elected, Sheriff Faile has been an advocate for the Sheriffs’ Association and works tirelessly to promote the Association in a positive light across the state,” said Thompson and Foster in a statement.
Faile began his career as a deputy in Lancaster County in 1989. Since then, he climbed the ladder from a patrol deputy, criminal investigator, and patrol captain before starting his first term as sheriff in 2009.
Under Faile’s leadership, Lancaster County implemented its “CrimeTRAC” program, which is based on NYPD’s COMPSTAT crime prevention strategy. Since 2015, Lancaster County has seen a decrease in violent crime and property crime.
Faile will be presented with the award at the South Carolina Sheriffs’ Association Conference in Myrtle Beach in July. In addition to the recognition, the SC Sheriffs’ Association will make a $1,000 donation to the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office.
