CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Loaves & Fishes, one of the largest food bank providers in Mecklenburg County, is in urgent need of canned items including canned meat, canned pasta, and canned fruit.
"But really any non-perishable foods that you feed your families, that's what we need to feed our families who are coming to Loaves & Fishes," Tina Postel, Executive Director of Loaves & Fishes, said. "With the holidays quickly approaching, there are a lot of families in our community that don't have food to put on their tables."
Area businesses, including WCNC-TV, are hosting food drives with containers for employees to put donations in. Thanksgiving is one of the busiest times of the year for food banks.
Postel said anyone can host a food drive, just visit the Loaves & Fishes website or call 704 523-4333.
Wednesday, Loaves & Fishes will release their yearly survey from clients on the overall need throughout Charlotte. Postel said this year's need will not be less than last year.
The nonprofit will deliver 500 frozen turkeys to area food banks for families in need to enjoy. Loaves & Fishes says one in five people around Charlotte struggle with hunger every day.
