Massive Hurricane Helene relief event planned for Charlotte

Thousands of volunteers will gather in Pineville to pack 500,000 meals and 10,000 hygiene kits for those impacted by Hurricane Helene.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A massive disaster relief effort with thousands of volunteers will take place in Pineville this weekend called Hope for the High Country.

Hurricane Helene left a path of destruction in the North Carolina mountains and the Charlotte community is invited to help pack 500,000 meals and 10,000 hygiene kits for the nonprofit No Child Hungry. The packaged items will sent to those in need in Burke, Watauga, Avery and McDowell counties.

Queen City Audio Video & Appliances is the sponsor of the event and is providing the building to host the event at 11410 Carolina Place Parkway in Pineville, NC.

The event runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2024. The morning volunteer shifts are full, but afternoon shifts are still available.

Donations to No Child Hungry are also being accepted to help pay for the supplies that will be used to pack the kits.

For those who have already volunteered or donated, WCNC Charlotte thanks you so much for making an impact.
