Local police K9 receive protective vests
The Lenoir Police Department K9s Axel, Mato and Cerik all received bullet and stab protective vests on Wednesday. The vests were a part of a charitable donation from nonprofit organization, Vested Interest in K9s, inc.
The vests were sponsored by an anonymous donor and each had a message that read, "Born to Love - Trained to Serve - Loyal Always," according to LPD.
“We are thankful for the grant and the opportunity to provide even greater protection for our K-9 partners,” Police Chief Scott Brown said in a press release. “Captain Wilson did a great job coordinating the application process, and we’ve had tremendous support from our community in this effort.”
The donation to provide one protective vest for a K9 is $1,050, according to police.
