MONROE, N.C. — Four hundred volunteers fanned out across Union County on Saturday to work together to complete 50 projects for neighbors in need as part of the United Way Day of Caring.
Volunteers from local businesses, civic clubs, churches, and the community helped with outdoor projects on Saturday, August 24. Projects included grass cutting, weeding flower beds, pruning shrubs, trash pickup, light painting, and more.
A volunteer kickoff was held at Irwin Belk Stadium at Wingate University. Volunteers then left for various locations across the county to start their volunteer work involving five nonprofit organizations.
Day of Caring is an annual community-wide service project organized by the United Way of Greater Charlotte.
A team from WCNC Charlotte volunteered for the event. The WCNC team was paired with a couple through the Council on Aging in Union County to help with yard work and overgrown bushes outside their home.
