AMBER ALERT CANCELED | 10-year-old Winston-Salem girl safe, suspect in custody

Police say Jacob Christian Jones was the suspect in the now-canceled Amber Alert. Investigators say he is also a suspect in a homicide investigation.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — An Amber Alert issued for a 10-year-old girl in Winston-Salem was canceled early Sunday morning.

Officials initially issued the alert for 10-year-old Azaria Nevaeh Walters, but around 2 a.m. the Amber Alert was canceled when Walter was safely located.

Winston-Salem police say 33-year-old Jacob Christian Jones is Walters' father and was the person who kidnapped her and three other biological children Saturday.

Police say around 2 a.m. Jones and all four of the children were found safe near Pineville, NC, by North Carolina State Troopers and Pineville police officers.

Jones was taken into custody and all four children were released to their parental guardians.

Investigators say Jones is also the suspect in a deadly Winston-Salem stabbing.

Officers found 68-year-old Rosalyn Howard laying on the ground outside a home in the 3500 block of Rosemont Ave Saturday afternoon. Police say she had been stabbed and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Investigators say Jones is the son of the victim and the main suspect in her killing.

It's believed he left the scene of the stabbing and took his four biological children, none of which he has custody of, which prompted the Amber Alert.

According to the Winston-Salem Police Department, Jones was served with the warrant for murder while in custody in Mecklenburg County on Sunday.

Police said he has no bond and will be transported to Forsyth County in the near future.
