13-year-old arrested for deadly Charlotte shooting

The teenager has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Maurice Moore.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A 13-year-old has been arrested and charged with murder for the Oct. 7 killing of a man in southwest Charlotte.

The teenager, whose name was not released, was arrested Monday, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. He faces a charge of first-degree murder.

The teen is accused of shooting and killing 30-year-old Maurice Moore on Baltimore Avenue late on the Saturday night in October. 

Moore was transported by Medic to Atrium Health's Carolina Medical Center hospital for threatening of life-threatening injuries. He succumbed to his injuries hours later.

CMPD has not said what motivated the shooting, which was one of several instances of gun violence in Charlotte over that weekend.

The family of the suspect has been notified of his arrest, according to CMPD. The teenager is in the custody of the North Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice.
