CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A 16-year-old teenager has been charged with the shooting death of a 17-year-old teenager in north Charlotte overnight Friday morning, according to the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department.
The shooting happened in the 2700 block of Catalina Avenue around 1:03 a.m. Friday, April 2..
Upon arrival, officers located a the victim, later identified as Javion Sanders, inside a home with a gunshot wound. Sanders was transported to Atrium Health Carolina’s Medical Center by Medic. He was in critical condition but later died of his injuries, police said.
The shooter, who is not being identified by law enforcement because of his age, voluntarily turned himself into investigators, according to CMPD. He is being charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury.
The Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide Squad are conducting the investigation.
