Two people have been arrested in connection with the murder of a slain Shelby Police officer. The arrests come on the heels of a procession that brought the fallen officer home.

SHELBY, N.C. -- Two people have been arrested in connection with the murder of a slain Shelby Police officer. The arrests come on the heels of a procession that brought the fallen officer home.

According to the Shelby Police Chief, Ashley Hamrick, 28, has been charged with harboring an escapee and Deitria Morris, 37, has been charged with being an accessory to murder.

Both arrests are in connection with the murder of Shelby Police officer Tim Brackeen.

NBC Charlotte interviewed Hamrick, friends of Fenner, on Monday. She said she witnessed the gunfire.

Ashley Hamrick speaks to NBC Charlotte's Michelle Boudin the day before her arrest.

"I heard shots. I heard the 'pow pow,'" Hamrick said.

In the interview, Hamrick says Fenner was her roommate's boyfriend. She claimed she didn't know why he was back at the house where the shooting happened.

Investigators say Brackeen was there to serve warrants on Fenner for kidnapping and armed robbery.

These breaks in the case came as the body of one of Shelby's finest returned home. Flags flew high, crowds lined streets and more than a dozen agencies escorted the slain Shelby officer.

"I hope they know they're not alone," said a person in the crowd. "They have the community standing behind them."

As the community continues to show an overwhelming amount of support police continue to search for Irving Fenner, Jr.
