2 dead, 3 others hospitalized after shooting in Salisbury

Police released the identities of the two men who were both shot and killed in Salisbury.

SALISBURY, N.C. -- A homicide investigation is underway after Salisbury Police responded to an emergency call early Saturday that left two people dead and several others wounded.

Police responded to a call received at 2:13 a.m. Saturday of shots fired on the 100 block of West Fisher Street.

Upon arrival, officers located 23-year-old Daquan Robertson found dead at the scene in the 200 block of Church Street. Police identified 22-year-old Anthony Gill as the second person deceased from the shooting. Gill died at the hospital, police said.

Sharon Matthews is Robertson's grandmother.

"He didn't hang out with no crowd so they can't lie and say it's a gang thing. He doesn't do anything he works, he got a girlfriend and stuff. If you don't go nowhere, what is going on. Why are they marking my family?"

She's already lost two sons to homicides.

"See God don't like ugly, you're going to reap what you sow," said Matthews.

Police identified 22-year-old Quandarius Davis and 20-year-old Kayla McCullers as the two individuals hospitalized from the shooting. Davis was released from the hospital but McCullers was transported to an area trauma hospital, police said.

Another individual was also treated for gunshot wounds at Lexington Memorial Hospital. Investigators are working to determine if the person is connected to the shooting in Salisbury.

Salisbury city councilman Kenny Hardin said it's time for a change, suggesting Salisbury needs to bring in an outside organization to review how the city evaluates it's crime strategies.

"I think we're in denial as a city about how bad our crime problem is," said Hardin. "The citizens don't deserve this. 18 unsolved murders [this decade]. The family should not be in pain. The rest of the city should not be suffering."

No arrests have been made at this time.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Salisbury Police Department at 704-638-5333.
