CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A 13-year-old and a 14-year-old were arrested after police say they stole a car at gunpoint.
The carjacking happened around 9 p.m. on South Summit Avenue near W 2nd Street on Tuesday, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Police found the stolen car on Wednesday around 10 a.m. on Queen City Drive. Officers attempted a traffic stop on the car but the driver refused to stop. Officers chased the car on I-85 and crossed into Gaston County before returning to Mecklenburg County.
The two suspects later stopped the car and ran away near Hickory Bluff Court. The two teens were arrested shortly after. A handgun was found near the stolen car.
Secure custody orders were applied for the two teen suspects, however, they were denied by the North Carolina Department of Justice, according to CMPD.
Police have not said what charges the suspects will face.
