CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Two women were sexually assaulted by a stranger who broke into their homes in northeast Charlotte, police said.
Now Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police need your help finding the suspect.
CMPD said both crimes happened at an apartment complex on Canterwood Drive, and in each case, the suspect entered the homes through a back door.
The victims each gave a similar description of the assailant. Police said the man has an average build and was wearing dark clothing.
Neighbors told NBC Charlotte they have recently seen security personnel driving around the complex.
"It's scary 'cause I just moved here two months ago," said Jannet Sandoval. "So I'm concerned about my safety and others."
Maple Run Apartments is working with police in the investigation.
"It's surprising, and it's shocking to say that that happened in my own neighborhood," said Nikya Kenner. "The kids can't come out at night alone by themselves and really can't go too far from the house, making sure doors are locked at all times is important."
Neighbors are taking safety precautions because of the crimes.
"I haven't been able to sleep since they told me about the last incident," said Missy Reyes. "I put like a wooden stick across the back sliding door so no one can get in."
She has a message for the attacker who's still out there.
"Think about the harm you're doing to people, the trauma that you're causing, not only to the women you're doing it to but to their families as well," Reyes said.
The apartment complex has a surveillance system, but it's not known whether anything was caught on camera. We reached out to the corporate office but have not heard back.
