HICKORY, N.C. — It's been four years to the day since a shooting at a Hickory convenience store claimed two young lives. Now, a $20,000 reward for information is on the table.
The Hickory Police Department shared the families of 16-year-old Damarion Isaiah Sharpe and 20-year-old Xzavion Rashawn Watts have offered the reward, believing someone in the community has details that can lead to the identity, arrest and prosecution of the person who killed the two young men. The department asks anyone with information to call (828) 328-5551 or call Inv. Tammie Johnson at (828) 261-2619.
Watts and Sharpe were killed on May 10, 2020. They had traveled from a family cookout to the Save More Convenience Store on 1st Avenue Southwest in Hickory with two women. The two women, who were the driver and front passenger, got out of the car and walked to the store after parking.
However, police said a man wearing a gray hooded coat and black pants walked from the back of the store to the car where both Sharpe and Watts were in, next to the gas pumps. The suspect fired several shots from a handgun into the backseat, where the victims were seated. The suspect then ran away from the store, heading south.
Sharpe died at the scene. Watts was rushed to the hospital but died of his injuries.
