LANCASTER COUNTY, S.C. — Deputies in Lancaster County are asking for the public's help finding a man wanted in connection with the death of a woman found dead in May.

On Tuesday, May 28, deputies were called to a vacant home on Spirit Road in Lancaster's Rich Hill community. They found the victim, 36-year-old Kimberly Beth Alger, dead near the step leading to the back deck of the home. Detectives said the circumstances surrounding her death were suspicious and scheduled an autopsy to determine how Alger died.

On Friday, May 31, deputies announced that Derrick Allen McIlwain, 41, was wanted for an outstanding warrant for domestic violence against Alger. The incident in question happened just days before Alger's body was found, according to Sheriff Barry Faile. On Monday, deputies obtained a warrant for murder against McIlwain.

Deputies said McIlwain is known to carry guns and should be considered armed and dangerous. He should not be approached. McIlwain was last seen driving a black 2006 Nissan Altima that could have a paper tag or South Carolina license plate 8690LF on the back.

Anyone who sees McIlwain or the suspect vehicle should call deputies at 803-283-3388 or 911 immediately. You can also call South Carolina Crime Stoppers at 888-CRIME-SC.
