SALISBURY, N.C. (AP) - Three inmates have been charged with attacking a guard at the Rowan County jail.

Arrest warrants say Deputy Jamie Travis received cuts to his face, a broken nose and a concussion in the attack earlier this week. Sheriff's Capt. John Sifford said Travis is expected to make a full recovery.

Sifford said the three inmates were in the day room of one section of the jail during the exercise period and attacked the guard when one of the inmates had said he needed to go to the bathroom.

Other officers responding to the fight were able to bring the situation under control.

The inmates have been charged with assault.
