CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Three people were shot following an argument in north Charlotte late Friday night, the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department confirms.
The shooting happened in the parking lot outside the Osei Discount Food and Beverage store on L.D. Parker Drive.
According to police, a 19-year-old man was killed in the shooting. Police said two other females were shot. One was shot in the head, the other in the arm, both victims were rushed to a local hospital. CMPD says both were believed to have non-life-threatening injuries.
The victim has since been identified as Carlos Edward Lopez-Cole. His family has been notified of his death.
Police said the shooting started as an argument that escalated. The two females, who were bystanders, tried to defuse the situation and were shot, police report. At this time, police do not have any information on the suspect.
Going into the holiday weekend, police are pleading with the public to have a "cool head" if things start to escalate. This deadly shooting brings the city's total homicides to 81 so far this year.
