CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Five days after the fourteenth anniversary of 9/11, Airport Security Coordinator Herbert Judon says this is as good of a time as any to be focused on security.

"There's a lot of other things behind the scenes that have happened since then," Judon said. "Just restricted access."

Wednesday morning they held a three-hour security drill on rapid responses to an active shooter situation.

"We've got 100,000 people that come through the airport every day," Judon said, "And there are threats that are out there."

Several times a year WCNC does stories on the gun problem at Charlotte Douglas, where people are caught with firearms in their carry-on luggage. Even though those are most likely innocent mistakes, Judon knows you can never be too careful.

"We want to be prepared, we want to be coordinated," Judon said. "We want to make sure that our airport partners understand what to do if the situation were to arise."

That training Wednesday morning included over 150 people and Charlotte-Mecklenburg officers.
