Pedestrian hit, killed by alleged drunk driver

The crash happened along North Carolina 27 Tuesday night. The victim died at the scene, state troopers said.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A pedestrian was hit and killed by a suspected drunk driver in Lincoln County Tuesday night, state troopers. said. 

North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to a crash involving a pedestrian along North Carolina 27 near Millers Park Lane a little before 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 17. State troopers said a 2015 Ford Explorer was driving west when the driver hit a pedestrian who was walking in the road.

The pedestrian, identified as 33-year-old Chadwick Lee Garmon of Vale, died at the scene. He was wearing dark clothing, and the roadway was not lit, state troopers said. However, investigators determined that impairment was a factor in the crash and arrested the driver of the Ford. 

Naomi Elizabeth Yandle was arrested and charged with driving while impaired. Additional charges are pending the results of the investigation. State troopers will consult the Lincoln County district attorney before filing more charges against Yandle.
