CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating an alleged kidnapping and assault that happened Thursday evening.
It reportedly happened at a home along Commonwealth Avenue in the southeast part of the city. According to the police report, the victim said she was held against her will and prevented from leaving.
The report then goes on to say two suspects assaulted her by strangling her and one other suspect struck the victim on the head with a firearm and sexually assaulted her.
Neighbors said they’re shocked by the incident and painted a picture about what they saw.
One neighbor told WCNC Charlotte he saw multiple police cars flying down the street to the home. Another said she heard the woman screaming for help.
“It was shocking to see all of the police cars flying down the street. We knew something was going on,” said Mary Margaret Banner.
Another neighbor, George Marks, said the incident is making him more aware of his surroundings even where he lives.
“It gives you a reason to always be cautious and know your surroundings. Even in a calm, nice neighborhood like this one, anything can happen,” he said.
The victim was hospitalized for her injuries. Anyone with information is urged to contact CMPD.
