Armored truck guard shot, wounded during robbery at Statesville CVS, police say

The guard was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Police are still looking for a pair of suspects.

STATESVILLE, N.C. — The driver of a Brinks Security armored truck is recovering after he was shot during an armed robbery in Statesville on Friday.

The Statesville Police Department said it happened around 2:15 p.m. at the CVS Pharmacy along Taylorsville Highway. Officers said a pair of suspects approached the truck driver as he left the store to return to the truck. The suspects tried to rob him.

During the confrontation, police said the guard was shot in the upper torso but managed to fire back at the suspects. The pair drove away from the story in a bronze-colored Dodge Charger.

The guard was taken to Iredell Memorial Hospital for treatment. He faced non-life-threatening injuries.

A spokesperson for Brinks deferred comment to police when contacted by WCNC Charlotte.

Anyone with information is asked to call Statesville Police at (704) 878-3406.

Friday's confrontation is the second such robbery of its kind in the Charlotte area within a month. On July 31, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department reported two people stole another Brinks' guard's gun along Ikea Boulevard, holding him against his will while they stole roughly $277,000 in cash from the truck.

Earlier in the year, another Brinks truck was targeted along North Tryon Street in Charlotte, this time outside of a QuickTrip gas station.
