CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A suspect has been arrested and charged just days after a 1-year-old child was shot in the leg in east Charlotte.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department announced Friday that officers arrested 35-year-old Earl Lee White on Thursday in connection to the case. He was then charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
The shooting happened around 1 a.m. on Tuesday, April 16, at a home along Cricketwood Lane. A police report reviewed by WCNC Charlotte at the time said the child was shot by a then-unknown suspect.
The 1-year-old boy was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
As of publication, no further details about the shooting have been shared.
Tuesday's shooting came on the heels of a violent first quarter for the city with overall crime up 3%.
Note: WCNC instituted a policy in March 2021 regarding the broadcast or posting of mugshots.
WCNC will only air or post a mugshot if the person has been formally charged with a crime and in a few other cases. The exceptions include: If it appears the person could be a danger to themselves or others or if they are wanted by authorities; to differentiate between people with a common name; if the photos could encourage more victims to come forward. The news-editorial leadership may also decide to use a mugshot based on the severity of the crime(s) committed and/or the level of public interest in the crime and ensuing criminal proceedings.
