IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — Deputies in Iredell County have arrested a man accused of sending threats of violence to four schools in Iredell County Wednesday night.
Christopher Avelar threatened violence at West Iredell High School, Lake Norman High School, Lakeshore Middle School and the Brawley School, according to the Iredell County Sheriff's Office.
Avelar was arrested Thursday morning at his home, and served four arrest warrants for felony communicating threats of mass violence on educational property. He was taken to the Iredell County Detention Center, where he is expected to remain in custody until released to a family member, based on a judge's order.
"The safety of students and staff remains our top priority," the sheriff's office said, in part, in a news release. We encourage parents to speak to their children regarding social media safety and the consequences of making threats of violence."
