CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The man accused of killing a corrections officer turned down a plea deal.
Raphael White is charged with murder in the death of 27-year-old Bias Easley, who worked at Lanesboro Correctional Institute near Wadesboro.
Easley, a father of three, was found shot dead outside of his home in Southwest Charlotte last June.
Easley's sister-in-law was in court Thursday, as his alleged killer entered a not guilty plea.
"This was not just a black-on-black crime. This was something that was premeditated. This was something that you were angry for Tuesday. You came back and murdered him on Thursday," she said.
"We filed a motion as it relates to self-defense," the suspect's attorney James Exum said. "So it would be no surprise that's the angle that we have and we believe the facts will support that. But again it's going to be determined in trial."
A trial date for this case has not yet been set.
